Something spooky is happening in downtown Valparaiso. The Porter County Museum has prepared an exciting month of eerie activities for the entire family. Remember, there is nothing in the Museum that can hurt you…but you may not always be alone…
New to the Porter County Museum this year is the XIII Real Ghost Stories open house. Visitors will be able to explore the dimly lit old jail building in search of thirteen real ghost stories. Each story is featured in the location where the paranormal activity actually took place! Guests will even have an opportunity to enter normally off-limits areas—such as the second floor of the jail and the basement—in search of the unknown. XIII Real Ghost Stories is open from 5 P.M. to 10 P.M. Monday thru Saturday until Saturday, October 25. $5 donation/ person. $3/ donation/ student.
For the braver few, the Museum is offering late-night tours that highlight the paranormal history of the one-time jail and Sheriff's residence. Tours will begin at 10:30 P.M., 11:30 P.M., and 12:30 A.M. on October 17, 18, 24, 25, 27, 28, 29, & 30. There are only thirteen spots available with each tour time. Tours are first come, first served. Spots for each tour can be reserved by advanced payment. $15 donation/ person. $10 donation/ student.
Sunday, October 19 and Sunday, October 26 are special Family Days at the Porter County Museum. Bring the little ones during the daytime to explore. There will be a special story time with Paula B. Ramos—known to many as BOOKWMN—at 10 A.M. and Noon. A spooky scavenger hunt and special take-home activity will be available to all visitors. Open 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. Free Admission.
Our Haunted Museum—last year's prime attraction—returns to frighten more visitors leading up to Halloween. The very scary haunted house operates from 6 P.M. to 10 P.M. on October 27, 28, 29, & 30. $10 donation/ person. $5 donation/ student.
The final event of the Porter County Museum's October schedule is the biggest. Stay Halloween night in a truly-haunted 138 year-old building that used to be a jail. Be one of only thirteen people to spend Halloween in one of Indiana's most haunted locations. Only thirteen tickets are available for this monumental event. $40 donation/ person.
